Thrasos has brought together a focused and proven team with extensive experience in drug and biologics product development, knowledge of BMP chemistry and biology, small molecule drug development expertise and experience in development of therapies for renal disease.

Richard Andrews – President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Andrews brings 28 years of experience in developing, managing and financing new ventures in biologicals, diagnostics and medical devices to his role at Thrasos. Prior to joining Thrasos, Mr. Andrews was the business founder and CEO of RenaMed Biologics, and prior to that led clinical operations at VascA, Inc. Mr. Andrews has spent most of his career in business development, focused on products and services for treating acute and chronic renal failure. Mr. Andrews is trained as a physical biochemist and in the management of technology. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Hobart College, an M.S. in Chemistry from Purdue University and a S.M. in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Philippe Bey, Ph.D. – Senior Vice President, Research and Development
Dr. Bey has participated in and led teams responsible for over 30 INDs in many therapeutic areas, including oncology, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, inflammation, metabolic and central nervous system diseases. Prior to joining Thrasos, Dr. Bey was the Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President of R&D at ArQule and before that, Dr. Bey served as U.S. Senior Vice President of R&D at Hoechst Marion Roussel (HMR), now Sanofi Aventis. He also served at HMR's parent companies, Marion Merrell Dow, Merrell Dow and Richardson Merrell, in numerous scientific and management leadership positions, both in Europe and in the U.S. Dr. Bey received his Ph.D. and B.S. in chemistry from the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France and did his post-doctoral training at the California Institute of Technology. He has also served as an adjunct professor of medicinal chemistry at the University Louis Pasteur. Dr. Bey has authored 89 publications and 20 book chapters, and holds 63 issued patents.

Dr. Andreas Orfanos, MBBCh, FFPM, MBA -- Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Orfanos has over 25 years of international experience in strategic, executive management and operational roles in major healthcare sectors with a particular focus on global pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. He has been instrumental in several landmark studies in renal disease, transplantation and oncology and has led many technologies and product candidates from research and development to commercialization. Prior to joining Thrasos, he established ORFANOS Global Healthcare Consulting Inc., which focuses on creating value for organizations through strategy and advancing products and technologies. Dr. Orfanos was Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning and Scientific Affairs at Neurochem Inc. He has also served at Picchio Pharma Inc., Novartis Canada Pharmaceuticals Inc., Sandoz Canada Inc. , Sandoz Products Ltd. and Lifecare Ltd., holding various lead roles in strategy, business development, specialty business units, drug development and clinical management. Dr. Orfanos received his FFPM from the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and his MBBCh and M.B.A. from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.

William D. Carlson, M.D., Ph.D. – Founder and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board
Dr. Carlson, co-founder of Thrasos, was co-founder of ArQule, Inc., where he led the development of its integrated drug design platform. His previous experience includes Director of Cardiovascular Research at Smith Kline French. Dr. Carlson is an internationally recognized expert in the 3-D structure of growth factors and the application of X-ray crystallography and molecular mechanics to drug design. In 1996, Dr. Carlson completed the three-dimensional structure of BMP-7 and he has authored numerous BMP-related patents. Dr. Carlson is a practicing cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Chemistry at Brandeis University. He received his B.A. in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College and his M.D. and Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry degrees from Yale University.
